Critical change: Remote testing ends after June 2026. Starting with the August 2026 LSAT, all administrations move to in-person Prometric testing centres. If you prefer testing from home, June 2026 — registration deadline 21 April 2026 — is your final opportunity. Remote testing after that date is available only for approved medical accommodations or documented extreme hardship.

Month-by-Month Strategy

When you sit the LSAT materially affects your admissions strategy. Here is what each test window means in practice.

June

2026: Final Remote Administration

The June LSAT is the last administration before the new admissions cycle opens in September. It is the optimal date for rising seniors intending to apply the following autumn: scores arrive in late June, leaving the entire summer for application preparation. For the 2026 cycle, June holds additional urgency — it is the last LSAT offered remotely. Students who prefer home testing must register before 21 April 2026.

August

In-Person from August 2026

August is the most strategically valuable date for fall applicants. Scores arrive in early September, before the rolling admissions queue at selective schools becomes competitive. Students who submit complete applications in September or October hold a meaningful advantage over those who wait until December or January. August also permits a September or October retake if the score does not meet expectations.

September

September remains a strong option, with scores arriving in early October — still early enough for competitive rolling admissions consideration. It functions well as a primary date for students who need additional preparation time after June, or as a strategic retake window for those who sat in August. Estimated registration deadline for the 2026–2027 cycle: late July 2026.

October

October is a reasonable date for students who require more preparation time. Scores arrive in late October or early November, and most selective schools remain open for applications. Merit scholarship consideration, however, is meaningfully reduced relative to August or September applicants at rolling admissions schools.

November

November scores arrive in late November or early December. Applications submitted at this stage are received after the earliest and most competitive cohort has already been reviewed. November is typically used as a retake date rather than a primary sitting. The November administration has historically been offered in-person only, with no remote option available.

January

January is a late-cycle date. Scores arrive at the end of January, and while most schools are still formally accepting applications, the rolling admissions advantage is substantially diminished. January is better positioned as an early start for the following autumn's applications than as a current-cycle option for selective programmes.

February

February is past the regular admissions deadline for most schools in the current cycle. Its primary use is as a forward-planning date — students who sit in February and perform well have their score secured months before the next cycle opens in September, allowing for a focused and unhurried application process.

A test date without a plan is a risk.

Lovare works backward from your chosen test date to build a structured, week-by-week preparation architecture. We mentor a limited cohort each cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

As of April 2026, the next LSAT date is June 2026, with registration closing 21 April 2026. This is also the final remotely-administered LSAT. All administrations from August 2026 onward will be in-person at Prometric testing centres. Registration for the 2026–2027 cycle opens in mid-May 2026.
Register through your LSAC JD account at lsac.org. Select your test date, choose your format (remote for June 2026; in-person from August 2026 onward), and pay the $248 registration fee. LSAC fee waivers are available for financially under-resourced candidates.
The registration fee for the 2025–2026 testing year is $248. A score preview feature, allowing you to see your score before it is released to law schools, costs an additional $45 if purchased before the test and $80 after. Changing your test date after the registration deadline incurs a $145 fee.
Official scores are released approximately three weeks after your test date. LSAC notifies you by email when your score is available in your account. Factor this timeline into your application planning — most rolling admissions schools process applications most favourably in September and October.
Yes. LSAC has confirmed that starting with the August 2026 administration, the LSAT will be offered exclusively in-person at Prometric testing centres, with limited exceptions for approved medical accommodations or extreme hardship. June 2026 (registration deadline: 21 April 2026) is the final opportunity for remote testing.
August is generally optimal for students applying in the fall of the same year. Scores arrive in early September, before rolling admissions competition intensifies at selective schools. September remains a strong option. October is workable but reduces your advantage in the rolling admissions queue. November or later is not recommended for students targeting selective programmes in the current cycle.
LSAC allows up to five administrations within any five-year period, and up to seven times over a lifetime. All scores are reported to law schools, though most schools consider the highest score for admissions purposes. A structured retake plan with meaningful preparation between attempts is substantially more effective than repeated testing without changing your approach.
