Public interest law and international/tax law, at the very top of both, inside the biggest legal market in the world. Number one nationally in tax law and clinical training; top-three in international law and constitutional law.
Policy-facing and international. Tax, public interest, human rights, and legal philosophy are genuine world leaders. Bimodal. Root-Tilden-Kern and AnBryce scholars on one side, aggressive corporate recruits on the other, coexisting more peacefully than you'd expect.

Manhattan. The law school is inside the largest legal market on earth. NYU graduate housing (D'Agostino, Mercer) is the affordable option and heavily used; otherwise Brooklyn or upper Manhattan.
Four seasons, grey Februaries, humid Augusts. A free Saturday looks like this: The whole city. That is the answer and the problem.
Distance to market: Zero. Every firm that matters is a subway ride away, which changes how networking and clinics work. Airport: JFK, LGA, EWR all under an hour.
Graduate Tax Program (the best in the country by consensus and by a wide margin), Root-Tilden-Kern public interest scholarship (full tuition, roughly 20 students per year), AnBryce Scholarship, Furman Academic Program (the premier feeder into legal academia outside Yale/Chicago), Institute for International Law and Justice.
Clinics: One of the largest clinical programs in the country. Immigrant Rights, Racial Justice, Civil Rights, Criminal Defense and Reentry, Technology Law and Policy, International Transactions.
Faculty and intellectual lineage: Richard Epstein (also Chicago), Jeremy Waldron, Barry Friedman, Kenji Yoshino, Melissa Murray, Rachel Barkow, Trevor Morrison.
$36,094 estimated and realistically higher. A studio near campus is $3,200+; most students take D'Agostino Hall housing or share in Brooklyn.
Cost of attendance is $120,046 a year and the median grant is $20,000 to 66 percent of students, so the median student pays roughly $100,046 a year before interest.
Since July 1, 2026 federal borrowing for professional students is capped at $50,000 a year and $200,000 in aggregate with Grad PLUS eliminated, under the Reimagining and Improving Student Education final rule, which attributes the change to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/05/01/2026-08556/reimagining-and-improving-student-education-federal-student-loan-program-final-regulations). That leaves a gap of about $70,046 a year at sticker, our arithmetic, to be closed by scholarship, savings or private credit.

Who should look elsewhere: Someone who wants a self-contained campus community or a low cost of living.
