The business of law, and the wrongful conviction movement. Two identities that sit oddly together and both are genuine. Top-ten in business law, criminal law, and dispute resolution.
Business-facing and empirical. Accelerated JD-MBA and the Bluhm Legal Clinic, including the Center on Wrongful Convictions, are the two poles. Consultants, bankers, teachers, and military veterans in their late twenties. The oldest median student age in the T14 and it shows in the maturity of the culture.

The disclosed backdrop: Northwestern admitted 12.3 percent of applicants and employs 97.7 percent of graduates at ten months, so the competition is over which job rather than whether one exists. Small 1L sections in a class of roughly 230, on a downtown Chicago campus separate from the Evanston main campus.
Adult. Fewer keg parties, more dinners and networking. The Streeterville location puts students on the lakefront next to the firms that hire them.
Collegiality rates 5 out of 5 in our master file. Career-changers, JD-MBA candidates, LSAT splitters, and anyone who interviews well. Northwestern rewards presence in a way no other T14 does.
The complaint students actually make: Weaker clerkship placement relative to peers, and a reputation for prizing polish over intellect. Chicago winters are a genuine variable.

Universal admissions interviews, unique among the T14; a stated preference for applicants with work experience; the Streeterville lakefront location that keeps students physically inside the Chicago legal market.

Chicago. See above. A free Saturday looks like this: The lakefront trail, the Art Institute, a Cubs game, West Loop restaurants, a genuinely world-class city.
Distance to market: Every Chicago firm is within a mile. This proximity structures the entire recruiting experience. Airport: O'Hare and Midway both accessible by train.
Accelerated JD-MBA (three years, with Kellogg, the best-integrated program of its kind), Two-Year JD, Master of Science in Law, Securities and Exchange Commission Program, Program on Negotiation and Mediation.
Clinics: Bluhm Legal Clinic, one of the largest and best-funded in the country. The Center on Wrongful Convictions has been directly responsible for exonerating dozens of people and helped drive Illinois' death penalty moratorium.
Faculty and intellectual lineage: Jide Nzelibe, Andrew Koppelman, Steven Lubet, Deborah Tuerkheimer, John McGinnis.

Cost of attendance is $117,452 a year and the median grant is $40,000 to 76 percent of students, so the median student pays roughly $77,452 a year before interest.
Since July 1, 2026 federal borrowing for professional students is capped at $50,000 a year and $200,000 in aggregate with Grad PLUS eliminated, under the Reimagining and Improving Student Education final rule, which attributes the change to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/05/01/2026-08556/reimagining-and-improving-student-education-federal-student-loan-program-final-regulations). That leaves a gap of about $67,452 a year at sticker, our arithmetic, to be closed by scholarship, savings or private credit.
Career-changers, JD-MBA candidates, LSAT splitters, and anyone who interviews well. Northwestern rewards presence in a way no other T14 does.
Who should look elsewhere: Students straight out of undergrad with no work experience, and clerkship or academia hopefuls.
The trade-off, stated plainly: You get a downtown location and adult culture at a lower cost than New York, with a slightly weaker national clerkship record.
