Law school grades only mean something as positions, and this calculator does the conversion: your school's grade distribution in, your estimated percentile out. Start from a typical mandatory curve preset or enter your school's published bands from its academic regulations, pick your average grade, and read the docket line.
The calculator sums the percentage of the class in bands above yours and places you at the midpoint of your own band. That is the honest limit of the method: real sections vary, professors have discretion inside bands, and pluses and minuses blur the edges, so treat the output as a calibrated estimate, not a registrar's certificate. Yes, that is its main job: a supportable percentile phrase, roughly top third, derived from published distribution data, which is exactly what non ranking schools expect you to do.
Because the curve assigns positions by band: everyone in the B+ band shares a region of the class, and the honest resolution of any estimate is the band, not the hundredth of a point.
A calculator tells you where a raw score lands once the curve is applied. It does not tell you whether the raw score was any good, which is the question the curve guide answers.
Run it after a practice exam rather than before one. Used before, it becomes anxiety with a number attached.
