Beginning with the August 2026 administration the LSAT is delivered in person at Prometric test centers for almost all test takers in the United States and internationally, per LSAC (https://www.lsac.org/lsat). This is the change most likely to catch out anyone working from an older guide, because the remote-by-default era has ended for most test takers.
Remote testing survives as a set of exceptions rather than as an option you choose.

Beyond June 2027, LSAC had not published further administrations as of our verification date. If you are planning past that horizon, plan the month and confirm the date later.
Three considerations, in this order. First, does at least one further administration fall before your application month, so a retake is possible.
Second, does the date sit far enough before your applications that the score will be in hand. Third, and only third, how much study time it leaves you.
That order is deliberate. Study time is the consideration people optimize first and it is the one that matters least, because additional weeks show weak returns while a missing retake slot is unrecoverable.
On the returns point specifically: across 28 studies and more than 16,000 participants, neither contact hours at p = .489 nor program duration in weeks at p = .314 predicted test prep outcomes, per Hao and colleagues (2025), Review of Educational Research (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.3102/00346543251360775).
The registration fee alone is $253, and it is rarely the whole bill (LSAC LSAT and CAS fees (https://www.lsac.org/lsat/register-lsat/lsat-cas-fees)).

Where LSAC has not published something, this page says so in those words rather than filling the hole with a plausible number. That is the difference between a gap and a guess, and only one of them is safe to plan around.
